Sleepover at the J

Sylvie is celebrating her final week in preschool and as a room parent, I, her mother, have been helping plan the events leading up to the big graduation on Friday. One such event was an extremely ambitious SLEEPOVER at the JCC. The teachers were really encouraging and spent the night as well. Out of 16 children I think about 8 spent the night after a dinner and some other astronomy activities. Though the weekend was stellar, Monday we could only spot one star. We had a great time and will go down in the history books of the JCC as the first 4 year-old class to spend the night!

Did I mention that at 10:00 it started to sprinkle and I said "Sylvie, that is what rain sounds like in a tent! it will stop soon" Then it started to POUR and we started cracking up and fell asleep to the beautiful sound of rain on the tent. I woke a few times with the vague sense that the tent is probably not water-proof. True that. In the morning Sylvie's blanket was soaked but my airmatress was nice and dry.

Sylvie is looking more and more like Joey. This weekend a friend took these photos of her at the park when we had our annual mid-may heatwave weekend.

Water 1st

Sylvie's class decided to support an organization called WATER 1st and they collected backpacks from the whole school and sent them to kids in honduras. The photos that they send with the backpacks are so cute and I love Sylvie's teachers for teaching them about giving.

I got the yarn for this last year in AZ - I just finished this little winner, knit body and crochet trim.

Matzah Roca and other stories

You know its much more fun to eat matzoh when you don't have to....buy and box and try this - you will never look at matzah the same way again.

Layout 4-6 Matzah on a foil lined cookie sheet (the kind with sides)

Boil for 3-4 minutes: 1 cup butter, 1 cup brown sugar

Pour over the matzah and spread to cover

Bake covered matzah at 350 for 20 minutes

Sprinkle 1 cup of choc chips over caramel matzah and let sit for 5 minutes, Spread out melted chips and cover with nuts or whatever you like

Cool in the fridge - break up and eat

This year I added toasted almonds to some and Fleur de Sel on some - YUM

Of course my favorite way to eat matzoah is smothered in cream cheese, black pepper and salami.

Easter at the Murphy's. Hayden is 7 months younger and a few inches taller. Sylvie was pissed! Leo wonders why he can't eat all of the candy he found!

My parents moved downtown to a deluxe apt in the sky. This is the view from the roof on a very cold January day. This shoes are a big part of our life right now. We simply must wear them everyday and we must always notice how brightly they shine and sparkle.

Last day in Hawaii

Now that we are back - the sunshine seems even more spectacular knowing that we won't see it for another 5 months.

Hawaii

It was raining and 38 degrees in Seattle. The day before a trip with kids is stressful because you can forget one key item and your life is ruined. Notice I said TRIP and not VACATION. Kids and vacation don't really go together. We are definetly on a vacation from the horrible winter in Seattle though. The Hassons have found the perfect place in Hawaii to stay with extended family - every family has their own condo and we see each other at the common pools and beach.
The foliage in Hawaii is so stunning, varied and different from our Seattle foliage. It sets the paradise tone. We drove to the top of Haleakala Mountain one day with the kids. Sylvie kept whining "I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE UNIT!" and Leon was screaming "BLANKET!!". We got to the top of the winding road, took some photos, and the fell asleep on the way down - PHEW.

Sylvie is four and she loves pink. She adds numbers on her fingers and wants to fly like TINK(erbell). She excels at swimming and always wants to dance. She only likes dresses, refuses to wear pants.

Leo is two and he colors on the wall. He got a hoop for his birthday for playing basketball. He loves to wiggle and jump up and down. His cute face is always in a smile, never a frown.

Joey works hard and uses his head. He builds and fixes things in his shed. His business is growing and so is his “cred”. At the end of the day, he makes sure the paper is read.

Molly juggles everything, kids, work and cooking. For some spare “me time” she is always looking. Her creative projects and crafts keep her hands busy. It all makes her dizzy and sometimes she throws a tizzy.
